When you’re Zendaya, even a totally innocuous ‘fit pic can send the internet screaming, crying, and spiraling into oblivion. And that’s exactly what happened this week when the Euphoria star tried to show off this breezy boots-and-boxers look on Instagram. On Thursday the actor accidentally stoked persistent rumors that she may be engaged to boyfriend and Spiderman costar Tom Holland with a mirror selfie that prominently featured a big pearl ring. Naturally, it didn’t take long for fans to notice and begin theorizing about the ring’s significance.
The speculation was seemingly so intense that it led Zendaya to delete the image, only to return later with an important clarification. Apparently, the Oakland, California, native wasn’t announcing anything with the post except her love for the Golden State Warriors, her hometown basketball team.
“I can’t post anything you guys,” she faux-complained in a clip subsequently shared to her Instagram Stories. “I posted it for my hat! Like, not for the ring on my right finger you guys! Seriously, you think that’s how I would drop the news? You think, like, what?!”
The actor even reposted the selfie with a new onscreen caption to further quell the rumors. “Let me just put the full body back so ya’ll can relax lmao,” she wrote atop the photo as her final word on the matter…for now, at least. Zendaya and Tom Holland have been dating for approximately two years.
Zendaya and Holland were recently spotted attending Beyoncé’s Renaissance world tour together in true power couple fashion. She wore a sparkling silver crop top and skirt set along with an oversized jacket and silver hoops. Holland, meanwhile, opted for black leather jacket and a Renaissance T-shirt.
