Zack Snyder Doesn’t Want to Continue the Snyderverse; Netflix Boss Addresses Continuation Possibility

Summary

  • Director Zack Snyder has confirmed that he will not be pursuing the DC franchise in any way in the future, putting an end to the hopes of fans who wanted to see more of his vision realized.
  • Fans of the Snyderverse are now rallying for Warner Bros. to sell the franchise to Netflix so that Snyder can continue his work with the support of the streaming platform.
  • While Snyder may not be involved anymore, Warner Bros. has recently agreed to license titles from the DCEU to Netflix, with several DC movies set to become available for streaming on the platform. However, this collection will not include Snyder’s version of Justice League.

Fans of Zack Snyder’s DC Universe are some of the most undeterred in the world. However, it seems that even they cannot continue their annual quest to revive the Snyderverse, as the director himself has declared that his former playground of heroes and villains is over. While that is the director’s stance right now, it seems that Netflix’s head of film, Scott Stuber, is still hoping to be able to bring Snyder’s whole DC world to Netflix in some way.

Speaking recently to The Hollywood Reporter, Stuber noted that it would be “tricky” to consider developing anything new within the Snyderverse, but could license the rest of Snyder’s movies.

“Obviously we would like to license it at some point. We’d love to have it on so that fans can experience more Zack. The more Zack we have the better we are.”

Of course, with various rumors of Warner Bros. Pictures potentially being sold off again circulating, anything is possible in the future. For now, though, Snyder has been clear that his priorities lie elsewhere.

Responding to a post on Vero (via @DCU_Updates), Snyder gave a simple two-word reaction to a YouTube reaction video link shared online, which suggested that Snyder had confirmed he will not be pursuing the DC franchise in any way in the future. His reply read, “That’s true.”

And with those words, the saga of the Synderverse appears to have reached a definite conclusion in Snyder’s eyes, no matter what some fans had hoped for the franchise.

After overcoming the odds to help instigate the director’s cut of Justice League, the dedicated fan base, who wanted to see more of Snyder’s vision realized, still have not accepted that the franchise as it was is dead at Warner Bros. Having spent so many years petitioning for the release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League, the rallying calls subsequently changed to demanding Warner Bros. should sell the franchise to Netflix for Snyder to retake the wheel.

Of course, it has become increasingly clear that James Gunn had not intend picking through the threads that are left of Snyder’s original vision for the interconnected franchise, and that means fans are now trying something different to have all their dreams come true.

There are clear reasons for fans choosing Netflix as their location of choice for the Snyderverse to have found a new home, as Zack Snyder already has a strong relationship and deal in place with the streamer. Having delivered the first two movies in his Army of The Dead franchise, and being set to release Rebel Moon, fans clearly feel like it would have made sense for him to then be given the chance to bring the old DC franchise back to life with Netflix’s help.

DCEU Titles Are Coming to Netflix.

Warner Bros. Pictures

While it is now clear that Snyder will not be providing any new input to his old DC stomping ground, Warner Bros. recently came to an agreement to license titles from the DCEU to Netflix.

This December, Man of Steel, The Suicide Squad, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman are among the 12 DC titles that will be available to stream via Netflix. The collection will also include the original Joss Whedon cut of Justice League, but not the Snyder Cut of the movie.

The remaining movies heading to Netflix this winter are Wonder Woman: 1984, Shazam!, Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad, Dc League of Super-Pets, The Batman and this year’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Although not arriving yet, it is expected that recent movies Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will all appear on the platform at some point in the future.
