Xbox Series S With 1TB SSD in Carbon Black Unveiled at Xbox Showcase

Xbox unveiled a new Xbox Series S – one with 1TB of storage and coming in a sleek carbon black – at today’s Xbox Showcase.

It’ll be released on Sept. 1 – so, yes, just in time for Starfield, which releases on Sept. 6. The Xbox Series S – 1TB will cost $349.99 USD, and is available to preorder right now from Best Buy or direct from Microsoft.

The newly unveiled console features the same speed and performance of the 512GB Series S, with the same matte black of the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Wireless Controller. So, basically, there’s little difference from the original Xbox Series S aside from the fact that it has double the storage and that matte black exterior.

The news comes just a few days after Western Digital announced new storage expansion cards for the Xbox Series X/S – one at 500GB for $79.99, and another at 1TB for $149.99. Considering the original Series S costs $299 USD in most places, the Xbox Series S – 1TB isn’t a terrible deal if you’re looking for more storage or are buying next-gen Xbox for the first time, as long as you don’t mind the lack of a disc drive.

In making the announcement, Phil Spencer also mentioned that Xbox has increased shipments of the Xbox Series X to meet demand. For everything announced at today’s Xbox Showcase, click here.
