You don’t have to be a fan of professional wrestling to empathize with the eclectic cast of Netflix’s evocative new docuseries Wrestlers. Directed by Greg Whiteley, the show centers on acclaimed former wrestler Al Snow as he attempts to keep professional wrestling league Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) afloat. Expertly capturing the beating heart of indie wrestling, the honest, oftentimes heartbreaking documentary follows the rowdy, lovable group of wrestlers as Snow and a new ownership group led by popular radio personality Matt Jones contend with mounting debt that might force the historic gym to close its doors for good. A beautifully penned love letter to the squared circle, Wrestlers is a transfixing, deeply honest look at indie wrestling.
