Paramount+ has revealed the official trailer and key art for the upcoming original series Wolf Pack, premiering Thursday, Jan. 26,the same day as “Teen Wolf: The Movie” exclusively on the streaming service in the U.S. and Canada.
Despite coming from Teen Wolf boss Jeff Davis, “Wolf Pack” is not a spinoff of the hit MTV series. Instead, it’s based on a book series by Edo Van Belkom. “I know that everybody gets confused by it, but I always say, ‘Nobody thinks Twilight is in the same universe as Interview With The Vampire. There can be two werewolf shows that exist in separate spaces. It’s funny because one of the things we did was consciously try and do things differently with Wolf Pack.” Said Jeff Davis to SFX magazine.
The series will premiere on Friday, Jan. 27 on Paramount+ in the U.K., Australia, Latin America and Brazil. Premiere dates for other Paramount+ international markets will be announced at a later date.
Wolf Pack follows a teenage boy and girl whose lives are changed forever when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature and drives it to attack a highway traffic jam beneath the burning hills. Wounded in the chaos, the boy and girl are inexplicably drawn to each other and to two other teenagers who were adopted 16 years earlier by a park ranger after another mysterious wildfire. As the full moon rises, all four teens come together to unravel the secret that connects them – the bite and blood of a werewolf.
Sarah Michelle Gellar will star as arson investigator Kristin Ramsey. An expert in her field and no stranger to personal loss, Kristin is brought in by authorities to catch the teenage arsonist who started a massive wildfire which may have also led to the reawakening of a supernatural predator terrorizing Los Angeles.
Joining Gellar are Rodrigo Santoro (Westworld), Armani Jackson (Honor Society, Chad), Bella Shepard (iCarly, The Wilds), Chloe Rose Robertson (Wildflower), and Tyler Lawrence Gray (Our Town, Macbeth).
Additional cast includes Bailey Stender, Chase Liefeld, Hollie Bahar, Lanny Joon, Rio Mangini, Stella Smith, Zack Nelson, James Martinez, Amy Pietz, Bria Brimmer, John L. Adams and Sean Philip Glasgow.
In an interview with US Weekly in September 2022 horror icon Sarah Michelle Gellar compared her two projects Buffy and Wolf Pack and spoke on the real life issues the shows tackles. “One of the things that I love so much about Buffy was how it was utilizing the idea of the horrors of high school and the vampires were the metaphorical version of those horrors. And you could only take it so far in those days because it was network television,” she said “So now you take what our horrors are today, which is depression and anxiety. And we are utilizing these monsters [in Wolf Pack] as the actual personification of that and what happens and finding how much harder it is to face your past these days.” Gellar also mentions that “the backdrop of the Los Angeles fires” is addressed on the show.
Jeff Davis promises Wolf Pack will be “more adult” and “a little bit extreme in places”, from what we’ve heard from Sarah Michelle Gellar, This show will take on more mature themes compared to Teen Wolf. However the show will still have a sense of humor, just “not as comedic as Teen Wolf.”
Written and executive produced by Jeff Davis, the series is a part of his multi-year deal with MTV Entertainment Studios. Davis is also writing and producing the upcoming Paramount+ original film “Teen Wolf: The Movie”, which is produced by MTV Entertainment and MGM. In addition to Davis, Joe Genier, Mike Elliott and Karen Gorodetzky serve as executive producers for Capital Arts. Jason Ensler, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Christian Taylor serve as executive producers.
