Why Adam Driver Has Never Joined the MCU

Over the years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a magnet for Hollywood’s biggest stars.

In addition to the usual suspects, such as Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pratt, other Tinseltown luminaries have also popped up in the MCU.

These have included Christian Bale, Paul Rudd, Rachel McAdams, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Russell Crowe, and Patrick Stewart.

These days, it feels like every major star is in the running for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What About Adam Driver?

Perhaps no actor has been linked to the MCU more often without ever joining it than Adam Driver.

Over the years, fans have cast Driver as Doctor Strange, Reed Richards, Doctor Doom, and, most recently, Magneto.

Nevertheless, the actor has yet to make his MCU debut.

During a recent interview with Deadline, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that the studio has had numerous discussions with Driver about joining the MCU in different roles.

Each time, however, the actor has passed.

“It’s no secret we’d like to [work with Driver]. But it’s a tradition to Zoom with him, and then he passes. That’s a long-lived tradition.”

While Feige made it clear that Driver “couldn’t be more cordial,” it seems equally clear that the actor has little interest in suiting up for Marvel.

Hope Springs Eternal

While Feige’s interview will likely throw some cold water on the idea that Driver will play Magneto or Mister Sinister at some point in the future, fans will surely continue to hold out hope.
