Where To Watch The Flash

Summary

  • The Flash’s theatrical run is over, and it will be released on the streaming service Max on August 25, 2023.
  • The Flash found success when released for digital purchase.
  • The success of The Flash on Max is important for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery to promote future projects and reinforce the concept of alternate timelines in the DC universe.

The Flash‘s theatrical run is over, and its subsequent debut on the streaming service Max is already lined up. On top of that, The Flash is now available to buy on digital, just a month after releasing in cinemas. The Flash is DC’s cinematic launch into the multiverse, with Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) traveling back in time to undo the murder of his mother. Barry’s actions end up disrupting the timeline, bringing Barry face-to-face with Michael Keaton’s Batman, Supergirl (Sasha Calle), and a younger version of Barry himself right as General Zod (Michael Shannon) returns to terraform Earth into a new Krypton.

The Flash went through an arduous journey to be realized over the course of nearly a decade, and The Flash drew mostly positive responses in early showings, along with a multitude of celebrities raving about The Flash. Ultimately, audiences were cooler on the release, with criticism of its wonky CGI and convoluted story-telling. The Scarlet Speedster’s movie hit theaters on June 16, 2023, and it’s Max streaming service premiere date is now set.

The Flash Is Releasing On Streaming On August 25

The Flash is officially confirmed to release on Max on August 25, 2023. The Flash‘s theatrical run ended with a disappointing box office total, and the home media release was pushed forward, following the trend already set by Black Adam and Shazam! Fury Of The Gods. Though previous estimates placed The Flash‘s Max debut sometime in September or October, those holding out to watch the DC blockbuster can do so sooner. The Flash found sizable success when it was released for home purchase on July 18, and that trend may continue when Max subscribers can check it out at no additional cost.

Does The Flash’s Max Release Need to Be Successful?

Ezra Miller In The Flash

While both Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios showed very clear confidence in The Flash, with its Cinema Con showing two months ahead of its release and the plethora of early fan screenings for the film, the box office sent a different message. And while WBD and DC Studios might initially have been primarily concerned with The Flash‘s theatrical run, both also surely want it to perform well on Max upon its streaming release after the home release boosted the overall take.

With The Flash such a major tentpole for DC’s multiverse, the post-theatrical impact it can have in reinforcing alternate timelines and parallel realities as a core part of DC is likely of great importance to the studio too. With The Flash‘s Max debut being held off until the fall of 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios will be hoping that the home release inspires a second wave of engagement with the movie. After all, The Flash getting a strong second push via streaming from good word-of-mouth would be huge in promoting DC’s other upcoming projects.
