WGA Strike Ends and Writers React – Deadline

Larry Wilmore says “finally.” Greg Grunberg says “Mazel tov! Writers Strike Deal!!!”

Bill Wolkoff promises not to picket Dancing with the Stars.

The Writers Guild has reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to end its strike after nearly five months, and needless to say — the members have thoughts, lots of happy thoughts. And it’s all spilling out on social media.

Here’s a roundup of their reactions so far (keep refreshing for the latest):

Billy Ray: “To all my fellow writers— You earned this. You saved our profession. Now let’s continue to stand w the actors. And IATSE. And the Teamsters. And labor everywhere. That’s how we’ll save America.”

Wolkoff: “Day 146. It gives me great pleasure to say we will NOT be picketing Dancing With The Stars tomorrow! I really can’t wait to watch the premiere on Tuesday, because we did it! We won! #WGAStrong

Glen Mazzara: “We should all be so proud. And grateful to our Negotiating Committee. #Closers.”

Philip Ascove: “WE DID IT!!! #wgastrong

Levar Burton: “Happy news! The details will tell the tale however, this is a huge step in the right direction! #bydhttmwfi

Justine Bateman: “Being in a union, and going on strike with it, is the type of thing that’s become unfashionable in society. It means you are sacrificing for others; committing to something bigger than yourself; putting in effort because those in the past did it for you, & now it’s your turn. It may be new terms that affect only the newest of the union’s members, or the part-timers, or the elders, and not necessarily you, specifically. But that’s not the point. “You” are not the point. ALL of you are the point. The union, the members as a whole, is the point. Being in a union is one of the most fantastic opportunities in life, to have the chance to stand up for the group, for the strongest and the weakest alike. What a magnificent experience in which to participate.”

Warren Leight: “Strikes are hard. They wear you down. Sometimes they fail. Sometimes the good guys win. Thanks to all who walked the line, and held the line. May we all be back to work soon.”

Josh Gondelman: “This is probably the happiest I’ve ever felt on Yom Kippur.”

Travis Helwit tweeted a meme of a crown and wrote “@ellenstutzman you dropped this.”

Amy Berg: “Incredibly proud of my team at the Fox picket for holding it down for the last five months. Great captains, great people. Hopefully the strike ends this week, but our family is forever.”

Helen Shang: “THANK YOU TO THE NEGOTIATION COMMITTEE — toand David Goodman and Chris Keyser and all the other writers on that committee, I fucking love you all for doing this for us, I will never forget what you have had to shoulder to get us here!!!

Mark Blutman: “I can’t come up with the words. I’m a bit of a mess. But until we ratify I don’t have to. I’ll just say this. I LOVE MY UNION and I love every other union that stood with us. And I will do the same till you have yours.”

Timothy Dowling: “WOOO to the EFFIN HOOO!!! Now let’s get back to work doing what we love: making magic and telling stories.”

Alex Zaragoza. : “CRYING SCREAMING THROWING UP CRYING AGAIN.”

Christopher Gorham: “In tears. It shouldn’t have to be this hard. And I’m so deeply proud. next.”

Joseph Mwamba: “Thank you lot coordinators Thank you Strike captains Thank you vendor donors Thank you WGA NegCom & WGA staff Thank you SAG, IATSE, & Teamsters But thank you to every single writer who made PreWGA writers feel included You won more than a deal tonight You won a stronger Union

Jon Hurwitz: “Hell to the yeah! Thank you to the WGA negotiating committee! Ready to get back into the dojo! #WGA #CobraKai

The fake Carol Lombardini: “Well we laughed, we cried, we fucked around, we found out, we murdered some trees and we wished a little light homelessness on certain people, but overall i think we can all agree i personally did a great job! now if you’ll excuse us we need to go atone!!!!!!” said the fake Carol Lombardini.

Caroline Renard: “We got a deal. That was the hardest I’ve worked in forever. Captain signing off!”

Phillip Iscove: “We did it!!! Thank you to every single person who supported the WGA through this strike!!! #wgastrong.”

Tze Chun: “Ok let’s get the f–k back to work.”
