Last November, the Marvel Cinematic Universe tackled the horror genre when it released the Halloween special Werewolf By Night.
Filmed in black-and-white, the Disney+ release dove into the world of monsters and werewolves for a one-hour special that brought together the best aspects of classic horror films and Marvel’s always-expanding universe.
An homage to the classic Universal Pictures monster movies, the special series was unique amongst the Marvel canon.
Following its release, Werewolf by Night was lauded by critics and fans alike for its compelling story and unique tone.
The Story of Jack Russell
Werewolf By Night tells the story of Jack Rusell, a seemingly normal man, who has been afflicted by a curse that transforms him into a werewolf.
When famed monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone dies, his widow Verussa brings together five experienced monster hunters for a hunt. The winner of the contest is to be rewarded with the powerful Bloodstone.
As it turns out, the monster the group is hunting is actually Russell’s friend “Ted,” whom he came to rescue. After meeting up with the Man-Thing, Jack needs to find a way to escape.
‘Werewolf By Night’ Is Coming To Hulu
With Halloween just around the corner, Disney is bringing Werewolf by Night back into the spotlight.
Beginning on October 15, the Marvel Halloween special will debut on Hulu. Previously Werewolf by Night was only available on Disney+, but now the show will remain on Hulu through October 31 as part of its Huluween celebration.
Marvel Is Re-Releasing the Special in Color
Speaking of Disney+, Werewolf by Night will return to its original home on the streaming service in a new way.
On Disney+ the Marvel Halloween special will be released in color for the first time.
Seeing Werewolf by Night in color will drastically change how fans see the film. Part of the allure of the original version of the special was the mysterious dark tone that the release had.
Viewing the special in color will surely take away some of the mystery of the special, but it also may highlight other aspects of the story such as the power of the Bloodstone.
Luckily, Marvel fans will get a chance to see which version of Werewolf by Night they like best. I for one, can’t wait!
Werewolf by Night will stream on Hulu beginning on October 15, and will arrive on Disney+ in color on October 20.
