Grammy-nominated American star Swae Lee reminded South African fans why he remains one of the world’s biggest hitmakers with a thrilling headline performance at The Ascots marquee during the 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July.
Taking to the stage at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Saturday, July 4, the rapper had the packed crowd singing, dancing and cheering from start to finish.
Making his return to South Africa after eight years and performing in Durban for the first time, Lee wasted no time connecting with fans.
“It is good to be back,” he told the roaring crowd before launching into a set packed with chart-topping hits.
The audience erupted when he performed his smash hit “Unforgettable”, turning the Southern Lawns into one giant singalong. Lee fed off the energy, moving across the stage, encouraging fans to sing every word and making sure every corner of the marquee felt part of the show.
His performance capped off a day where music and fashion shared the spotlight.
The Ascots made its debut at the Hollywoodbets Durban July as a boutique festival experience that blended luxury hospitality with live entertainment.
Spread across more than 4,000 square metres, the venue became one of the busiest attractions at the racecourse as thousands of guests filled the space from early afternoon until late into the evening.
Rather than feeling like a traditional horse racing marquee, they transformed into a music festival. Live broadcasts from Gagasi FM, non-stop DJ sets and performances kept guests on their feet throughout the day as the soundtrack rolled from one act to the next.
Lee stepped into the headline slot after DJ Mustard withdrew from the event. He joined an international line-up that also featured Bryson Tiller and Masego, giving fans a rare chance to experience three global stars on one stage during South Africa’s biggest horse racing and fashion event.
By the time the American performer walked on stage, anticipation had reached its peak. Fans raised their phones, sang along to every chorus and celebrated the return of an artist many had waited years to see perform in South Africa again.
For many guests, Lee’s appearance became one of the day’s biggest talking points. His ability to connect with the audience, deliver hit after hit, and embrace his first visit to Durban made the performance one of the standout moments of the 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July.
The debut of The Ascots proved that the event is more than a hospitality marquee. It created a festival atmosphere where fashion, music and entertainment came together, with Lee’s memorable performance providing the perfect finale to an unforgettable day.
