In our previous update, we saw the actor walking on an anti-gravity treadmill. His determination is a character attribute that contributes to his ability to overcome the odds.
Interview with Diane Sawyer
Today, Disney+ posted news of the upcoming interview on Instagram, along with an official trailer. In it, Renner tells Diane Sawyer, point black, “I chose to survive.”
As the video opens, we see him as Hawkeye, a superhero from the Avengers. The clip transitions to his sit down with Sawyer, where Renner talks about being awake through every moment of the pain he endured via his snowplow accident.
His nephew, clearly still traumatized, shares that he saw his uncle “in a pool of blood coming from his head.” After approaching him, he admits he “didn’t think he was alive.”
Despite all that he’s been through, Renner says that he’d “do it again.” His nephew was in harm’s way, period.
The video publicizes the 911 call made on January 1. It’s a hard listen, being that you can clearly hear Renner in immense pain.
Seven tons of machinery came down on him that day. As a result, he suffered eight ribs broken in fourteen places.
After hearing about all he endured and seeing his hospital photos, it’s a miracle that he not only survived but overcame the odds.
Renner says that despite the fact that he’s “lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience,” he’s “been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.” When he looks in the mirror, he sees himself as a “lucky man.”
Tune in to The Diane Sawyer Interview – A Story of Terror, Survival and Triumph, airing on April 6 at 10pm ET on ABC. It will also be available for streaming on April 7 on Disney+.
