MARVEL.COM: Venom and Eddie have a very extensive history together. How does this next chapter fit into their larger story? Has anything changed in their relationship?
SOULE: I think the analogy described above applies here too: they’re two people who are being sort of tentative about this huge next step. To us, as readers, it feels natural, “Oh, of course Eddie’s Venom again,” but to them, as characters, it’s a bigger deal. It feels both very right but also very dangerous. When Eddie and the Venom symbiote bond, historically, it’s meant massive things happening on a worldwide, galactic, sometimes even cosmos-wide level.
They’ve also both been through a lot as individuals since their last bond, things good and very bad – I mean, Eddie was bonded with Carnage for a while! So, there’s a sense of stepping off a cliff for them, but they’re going to make it work. This time, they tell each other… it will be different.
