“Vampire” is exciting for Olivia Rodrigo and for the fans

Some artists know immediately how to captivate their audience. One performer who comes to mind is Olivia Rodrigo.

While Rodrigo started off on Disney and blew up after being on a Disney+ show, she seemed to resonate with listeners of all ages. There is no denying the impact “Driver’s License” had when it was released in 2021.

You couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing that song and the success continued with the rest of her singles. Additionally, Sour ended up being a favorite album of many and really filled that void some listeners had been craving.

The release of her newest single, “Vampire,” gives us a good indication that we’re getting more of the same Olivia Rodrigo sound we’ve come to know and love.

“Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo gives us a lot to be excited about.

Before getting into this, I wanted to link the video above so you can watch it if you haven’t had a chance or at least, take a listen to the song. Regardless if you’ve listened or not, I feel like it gives you a good idea of what this next album from Olivia Rodrigo is going to be.

After watching the video twice, I already have some huge takeaways and things I love which starts with the Twilight inspiration. I know Olivia Rodrigo loved Twilight so I feel like her outfit reminds me so much of Twilight. Additionally, the cover art and some of the pictures she shared reminded me of the iconic series.

With that being said, the references to Twilight and the song’s title make it seem as though this next chapter for Olivia Rodrigo is going to be transformative. When I think of vampires and Twilight, it’s all about change and becoming something new which seems like a plausible enough idea.

However, I also feel like she’s going to lean into her more dramatic side as we heard on songs like “Good 4 U” and “Brutal.” Additionally, the music video for “Vampire” is understandably dramatic and does feature some unique lyrics. I don’t know about you, but it gets me excited about what the rest of the album is going to sound like.

For lack of a better word, Rodrigo really leans into “emo” music. She’s not afraid to talk about how she feels. She doesn’t care what’s being said or how she has to say it to get her point across. She’s just not afraid to put herself on the page and that’s something I feel can be lacking yet it was abundant in the emo era.

While I don’t think she’s going to venture too far from her comfort zone, “Vampire” gives us a decent idea of what to expect from her. All I can say is that I can hope that GUTS ends up being just as successful as Sour was and still is.
