Upgrade Your Time Lapse Videos With the World’s First 14mm f/1.4 Lens from Sigma

Explore the wide expanses of space (and night in general) with this new Sigma lens.

There’s just something so great and freeing about a wide-angle lens. You never feel cornered or put in a box with a wide angle. Even if you want to point it up at the furthest points in the sky, you can rest assured that you’re leaving nothing out of frame.

That is, of course, if it’s fast enough and capable of handling it.

This is why it’s exciting to share the news of Sigma’s 14mm f/1.4 lens, a first for the brand and the world, apparently. With this fast and wide new lens, you can really open your photography, time-lapse cinematography, or videography to whole new worlds of possibilities.

Let’s take a look at this new wide lens and explore how it might be the perfect lens for your nighttime lapses and space-exploring videos or photos.

The New Sigma 14mm f/1.4

Designed for Sony FE mount and Leica L mount cameras, these are really a space photography play through and through. However, just because a lens’s primary purpose might be photography, it doesn’t mean video pros won’t be able to use it too. (And if that were true, we’d never have any lenses at our disposal really.)

Up until this point, most of the 14mm wide-angle lenses out there were lucky to get down to f/1.8 speed. With this new f/1.4, you can expect some low-light capabilities which were previously unseen for this angle type. We’re talking about Barry Lyndon territory, y’all.

For the photographers out there, this Sigma 14mm lens will include a full array of photo-minded tools and features like a manual focus lock function, a lens heater retainer, a rear filter holder, and a removable tripod socket. For videographers or photo/video time-lapse takers, this should be a revolutionary lens with a killer field of view.

An Ultra-Wide Field of View

With new chromatic aberration correction controls, this truly makes this one of the best ultra-wide lenses for all types of space and night photography and video. However, you don’t have to solely use it at night or point it at the sky. There are plenty of examples of video pros needing wide coverage for low-light video work ranging from documentary projects to more stylistic choices.

Plus with a rear filter holder too (despite no front filter options due to its fixed hood), you can keep your NDs or other filters handy for different looks and setups as well.

A great lens option to bag alongside your usual array for different hybrid photo and video projects and perfect to combine with a solid Sony mirrorless of any grade.
