Upcoming ‘The Conjuring’ Expansion Officially Confirms All-New Release Date

Despite The Conjuring: The Last Rites being billed as the final film in the original franchise, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are far from done with The Conjuring Universe. A prequel movie, The Conjuring: First Communion, is set for release on Sept. 10, 2027, and has recently cast Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix as younger versions of Ed and Lorraine Warren. An HBO Max series set within The Conjuring Universe is also in development.

In a major release date shuffle involving titles like The Batman – Part Two, Warner Bros. also moved The Revenge of La Llorona. The sequel to the 2019 film, The Curse of La Llorona, has been moved to Feb. 27, 2027, according to Deadline. The Revenge of La Llorona was originally set for release on Apr. 9, 2027, with its former release date given to Panic Carefully, a thriller from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail starring Julia Roberts, Elizabeth Olsen, Brian Tyree Henry, and Eddie Redmayne.

The Revenge of La Llorona will be directed by Santiago Menghini (No One Gets Out Alive). The movie is set to star Monica Raymund (Hightown), Jay Hernandez (Suicide Squad), and Edy Ganem (9-1-1). Raymond Cruz is set to reprise his role as Rafael Olvera from The Curse of La Llorona. Additional cast members include Martín Fajardo, Acston Luca Porto, and Avie Porto. Filming began in August 2025.

The Revenge of La Llorona and its predecessor, The Curse of La Llorona, take place within The Conjuring Universe but are not considered part of the main franchise. However, actor Tony Amendola reprised his role as Father Perez from Annabelle in The Curse of La Llorona, with the villainous Annabelle doll also making a cameo appearance. The main reason the La Llorona films are not considered part of the official franchise is that Peter Safran, a producer of The Conjuring, has no direct involvement in them. The La Llorona movies are produced by Atomic Monster, the production company of The Conjuring director James Wan.

With its new release date, The Revenge of La Llorona will open the same day as K-Pop: The Debut, a musical coming-of-age film directed by Benson Lee. The Revenge of La Llorona will arrive nearly eight years after the release of the first movie. Despite not technically being part of the official Conjuring Universe, The Revenge of La Llorona and The Conjuring: First Communion opening in the same year can be seen as kicking off a new phase for the franchise.
