Trueno Talks Career, Argentine Representation at Latin Grammys

Argentine rapper Trueno stopped by the Variety Studio, presented by DIRECTV, to talk about the rise of his country’s impact on Latin music, the role he has played in that movement along with the leap of faith he took in order to pursue his music career.

“I’m happy to be able to represent Argentina and be a face for young people as someone who sacrificed something in order to pursue what they want,” the 20-year-old artist said. “It was, ‘Okay, I’m going to throw 100% to the music, I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t know if people are going to like it.’ But we made the first record that talked about my beginnings, and that’s when I realized this was what I was meant to do with my career.”

Elaborating on Argentina’s growing presence in Latin music, Trueno credited fellow rappers like Duki in being positive representatives of their native country: “I believe that the urban genre in Argentina grew very fast and is very strong nowadays, there are a lot of references to different genres such as trap, rap, Reggaeton and others. Something that makes me happy is that all the younger artists representing, like Duki [and others], are really a strong image for Argentine music.”

Trueno remarked that he listens to a wide array of genres as a fan and to find inspiration for his own music, including Dembow, Reggaeton, Latin and American-language music as well. He said he hopes to travel more of Latin America in the future, as he wants to visit different countries to consume and learn about its distinct musical cultures.
