Trailer, New Premiere Date For ‘Rouge One’ Prequel – Deadline

The latest trailer for Andor, the Rogue One prequel series, has been released. The Disney+ spinoff series will debut September 21 with three new episodes. That is three weeks later than the previously announced premiere date, August 31, and will now follow the debuts of HBO’s House of the Dragon (August 21) and Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (September 2).

The action-adventure series centers on the Cassian Andor character (Diego Luna, reprising his role from the film) prior to the events of Rogue One in the early days of the rebellion against the Empire. The series will begin with the destruction of Andor’s homeworld. The lengthy trailer also shows Forest Whitaker reprising his role as Saw Gerrera from the original film.

Also starring with Luna and Whitaker are Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller.

The series was created by Tony Gilroy, who worked on the original Rogue One script, and Toby Haynes is the show’s lead director. Ben Caron and Susanna White also will direct episodes.

Earlier this year, Luna described the series as “the journey of a migrant. … That feeling of having to move is behind this story. … That shapes you as a person. It defines you in many ways, and what you are willing to do.”

Luna debuted the trailer during an appearance on Good Morning America and discussed the decision to debut the series with three new episodes.

“It would be horrible to watch one episode and have to wait a week,” he said. “With these three episodes, you get to meet all these new characters, these new planets. It’s gonna be amazing.”
