When three-year-old Luz Maida was woken up in the middle of the night by her mother and thrust into the arms of a strange man, she could not understand what was happening.
And the truth is almost too horrifying to comprehend, as the little girl had just been sold by her mother to her drug dealer boyfriend in return for £10 worth of crack cocaine.
Chilling CCTV footage shows Luz being carried away in the early hours of Friday morning in Pedro Juan Caballero, Paraguay, by the boyfriend of her mother Aurelia Salinas, 42, before she was raped and murdered.
Just over 24 hours later, Luz’s bloodied body was found by horrified neighbours inside an abandoned house.
Luz, who was often seen wearing a blue dress with Frozen characters printed on it, was betrayed by her mother for 30 pieces of crack cocaine.

Heartbreaking CCTV footage shows Luz trying to escape from the clutches of Salinas’ boyfriend as he carries her away from her home.
As he picks his way down a muddy track, the dealer carries Luz in one arm and appears to slap her with his free hand to stop her wriggling.
The dealer, who has not been named, went on to rape and murder the three-year-old, who had not yet started school. Initial reports suggest she was suffocated.
Her tiny corpse was discovered wrapped in a shirt on top of a bed in an abandoned house.
Furious locals reportedly tried to lynch Salinas as she was being arrested after reportedly confessing to police her involvement in her daughter’s murder.
Her boyfriend later confessed to the murder, according to local media.
Salinas first told police that Luz had disappeared while she was sleeping, but admitted that she had sold her daughter for drugs after police discovered the CCTV footage.

Both Salinas and her boyfriend were arrested, along with a 17-year-old who is allegedly also involved.
According to police, Salinas was under the influence of drugs and seemed unconcerned while police searched for the girl.
More than 300 locals attended Luz’s funeral and some neighbours later burned down the house where her body had been found.
Investigators said the family had a ‘history of tragedies’, and Salinas has seven other children, including a 12-year-old girl she allegedly allowed to be sexually abused by a 30-year-old man.
Both cases are currently under investigation.
