With the unprecedented success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the box office, Tom Holland has become the undisputed face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After just three weekends in theaters, Brand New Day has already surpassed the $2 billion mark at the global box office, becoming just the eighth film to reach that milestone.

At this point, there is even an outside chance that the film could claim the title of the highest-grossing movie of all time.
Now, we have insight into how much Holland was paid to return for his fourth Spider-Man film.
Holland’s Big Payday
According to a new report from TheWrap, Holland agreed to a base salary of $20 million.

That is $10 million more than he earned for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
More importantly, however, Holland’s contract includes backend bonuses based on Brand New Day’s box office performance.

With the film crossing the $2 billion barrier, Holland stands to make more than $100 million for his performance.

That is a far cry from the $250,000 he made for Captain America: Civil War.
The Future of the MCU
Going forward, it is clear that Tom Holland could be the linchpin Marvel lost when Robert Downey Jr. exited the MCU in 2019.

While the studio has brought back its veteran stars for Avengers: Doomsday, that isn’t a long-term solution.
Instead, refocusing the Avengers around Holland seems like the best path forward, especially since his character already has a built-in relationship with Jean Grey and the X-Men.
