The upcoming Flash movie already had one fan in its corner when James Gunn called it “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made”, but now an unexpected celebrity is driving hype for the upcoming DC film: Tom Cruise.
According to a report from THR, the Top Gun and Mission Impossible star loved The Flash so much that he cold-called director Andy Muschietti to praise it.
The story started when Cruise had a meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who reportedly mentioned to Cruise how great The Flash was. Cruise requested to see the movie, and Zaslav obliged, having an advance copy of the movie sent to Cruise’s Beverly Hills home. Shortly after Cruise finished the movie he reached out to Muschietti.
According to THR’s sources, Cruise called The Flash something along the lines of, “everything you want in a movie” and added that “this is the kind of movie we need now.”
Tom Cruise got heaps of praise from the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg for Top Gun: Maverick and its role in saving the box office, so it’s nice to see the star passing some of the love back around.
Right now, all we can do is take Cruise’s word for it, as The Flash isn’t set to hit theaters until June 16. The movie is set to juggle two versions of Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmans, and the arrival of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. The movie will also mark the return of Michael Shannon’s Zod and Antje Traue’s Faora. The Flash has also dealt with more than its share of controversy, due to Miller’s legal troubles and questions surrounding if WB would stick with the actor.
