Titans Really Needs To Undo Season 4’s Biggest Hero Death

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Titans season 4.The death of one hero in the final episode of Titans season 4, part 1 was poorly handled and needs to be undone. Death is often a minor inconvenience in the world of comic book superheroes. This is certainly the case in HBO Max’s Titans, where multiple heroes have returned from the dead. Given that, there is no reason why one hero’s death in Titans season 4 cannot be undone just as easily.

The final episode of Titans season 4, part 1, “Brother Blood,” ended on a major cliffhanger, with the Titans all but helpless in the wake of the empowerment of Brother Blood. The mid-season premiere, “Caul’s Folly,” confirmed that most of the Titans somehow survived, thanks to the efforts of Beast Boy guiding them out of a death realm. Unfortunately, one Titan, who had been mortally wounded during the battle with Mother Mayhem and Brother Blood, did not make it.

If Jinx Really Is Dead, Titans Messed Up

The sorceress Jinx, whom Nightwing recruited to assist the Titans after Raven lost her powers early in Titans season 4, was an uneasy ally, at best. A magical mercenary, Jinx only joined the Titans for the promise of a paycheck, having a number of debts to settle in a hurry. Despite this, Jinx seemed to bond with the team, becoming close to Raven and finding peace with Nightwing, whom she used to date. Unfortunately, the hopes of Jinx finding a family among the Titans were seemingly dashed by her apparent death at the hands of Mother Mayhem in Titans season 4, episode 6, “Brother Blood.”

The opening scenes of Titans season 4, part 2’s premiere, “Caul’s Folly,” did little to clarify the circumstances of Jinx’s death. While Raven said “her powers sent us there” when explaining how the Titans had been sent to a death realm, it was unclear if she was speaking of Jinx or Mother Mayhem. In either case, it was Beast Boy who guided everyone back to the world of the living. Jinx’s death was confirmed shortly afterward, as Raven worked a spell to free her spirit from the dark influence of the Temple of Azarath.

While it was clear the Titans viewed Jinx as part of the team, with Raven specifically saying “Jinx died for us,” it was unclear if her death was a sacrifice to save them with one last spell. If Jinx died to deliver the rest of the Titans from the clutches of the Church of Blood, it would give her death some meaning. However, Jinx’s death in Titans season 4 is tainted by the ambiguity as to what role she played in saving the Titans. If nothing else, it seems wasteful to kill Jinx off so soon after she donned her classic costume from the comics.

How Jinx Can Return In Titans Season 4

Titans Season 4 Jinx Explains Magic Teleport

Thankfully, there are multiple avenues through which Titans season 4 can bring Jinx back from the dead. Tim Drake and Donna Troy were both able to fight their way out of the afterlife, with the assistance of Hank “Hawk” Hall, in Titans season 3. Titans also devoted a considerable amount of time to Jinx’s explaining how a wizard could teleport by disintegrating and reassembling their molecules. With her spirit free, it’s possible she could use this spell to restore her body. It was also implied that Jinx might have cheated death once before, as she said “f**k… not again” after being impaled on Mother Mayhem’s staff.

Titans season 4 continues on Thursdays on HBO Max.
