Peacock’s biggest scripted series to date is an official streaming hit, as confirmed by the latest Nielsen report. It got 1 billion viewing minutes on the platform within one week of release, and it still ranks on the streamer’s Top 10 TV shows one month after its breakout debut. Timothy Olyphant stars in this heartfelt story about loss, grieving, and moving on, set against a cozy backdrop of home-cooked meals, unhurried dinners, and rekindled friendships. This show is the definition of comfort viewing, perfect for lazy afternoons and laid-back evenings, and that’s why it has a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s eponymous novel, The Five-Star Weekend is one of Peacock’s hidden gems. It boasts a stacked cast starring Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, D’Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, with Jennifer Garner as main character Hollis Shaw, a famous food influencer who hosts a curated weekend retreat with four women she’s known at different points in her life to cope with her husband’s sudden death. What starts as a well-meaning gathering goes awry when the group uncovers a heartbreaking secret. Olyphant plays Jack, Hollis’ former sweetheart, who re-enters her life at the right moment.
Peacock Scores Big with ‘The Five-Star Weekend’
The Five-Star Weekend ranked fourth on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming originals across all platforms, with 604 million minutes viewed from July 13 to 19. Note that this is only an external audience share measurement of data taken from household panels, unlike Peacock’s internal metric that reads user activity directly from the app, which tracks micro-level engagements like ad completions. It’s not an apples-to-apples comparison, but it offers a third-party perspective using metrics applied to all streaming platforms.

The Nielsen’s ranking is based on total minutes viewed, so long-running TV shows have an advantage over new or limited series. The list is dominated by new shows with Ride or Die, The Hawk, and Little House on the Prairie taking the top three spots. Love Island USA ranked fifth with 596 million views registered across eight seasons.
Showrunner Bekah Brunstetter confirmed major changes from the book, like giving Caroline (Harlow Jane), Hollis’ daughter, her own character arc, so younger audiences can see themselves in the show. Since Season 1 has also fully adapted the novel, Brunstetter said she will develop the continuing story on her own. She’s teasing a reunion in the aftermath of the shocking revelation.
‘The Five-Star Weekend’ Showrunner Teases Season 2 Storyline
The “Five-Star” also refers to the five people Hollis invited for a getaway in Season 1, and Brunstetter says they might add a new “Star” next season. She also intends to take the Five Stars to different retreat locations, hinting at a ski resort next time. The Five-Star Weekend was greenlit for a second season earlier this month.
Brunstetter just confirmed she’s borrowing a page from The White Lotus playbook for the expanded adaptation. The Five-Star Weekend is currently an accessible emotional escape that doesn’t offer social commentary — it’s five women whose lives were altered after a secret was exposed during a weekend vacation. The White Lotus, on the other hand, is both an character study and a heavy-hitting cultural critique. Peacock could soon have another prestige series — but only if Brunstetter elevates The Five-Star Weekend‘s premise with heavier themes and morally complex characters.
