Tilda Swinton takes on two roles in her latest film, The Eternal Daughter in which she plays both daughter and mother with the kind of remarkable effectiveness and invention the world has grown to expect from one of the globes truly great actors. It is the latest film , and most recent collaboration between filmmaker Joanna Hogg and Swinton after reaching high acclaim for the two prevous Souvenir films. Swinton joins me this week on the eve of The Eternal Daughter’s U.S. release (it world premiered at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival) for the latest edition of my Deadline video series, The Actor’s Side. We talk about this unique project and the novel way they found to let the star play opposite herself without the usual movie trickery. We also talk about the current restoration and new theatrical release of her breakthrough movie role, Orlando which is now celebrating its 30th anniversary and still timely, even more so. Swinton won an Oscar for Supporting Actress in Michael Clayton yet she never possessed the statuette after that win, and we discuss just who got it and why she gave it to them. Her vast filmography includes Deep End, Snowpiercer, We Need To Talk About Kevin, I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, Trainwreck, Okja, Dr. Strange, Suspiria, Memoria, The French Dispatch, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and so many more. The list of directors who keep begging to work with her says much about this unique talent and include Wes Anderson, Luca Guadagnino, Bong Joon Ho, Jim Jarmusch, Sally Potter, and also earlier this year George Miller with 3000 Years Of Longing which debuted in Cannes, and the upcoming 2023 release The Killer for David Fincher. She talks about all of them. Join us to get the ‘actor’s side’ from Tilda Swinton by clicking on the link above.
