The Witcher is ready to move on without Henry Cavill and for Liam Hemsworth to take his place. Last year, after surprisingly returning as Superman in a brief cameo on Black Adam‘s post-credit scene, Cavill announced he would no longer keep playing Geralt de Rivia on the Netflix hit series after season three.
Now that the two batch of episodes of the third installment of the show have already released on the streaming platform, the team behind the series needs to start thinking of leaving Henry’s portrayal of the main character behind and help Liam Hemsworth on his journey on becoming the new Geralt. Of course, it won’t be easy, since fans have been slamming Netflix for continuing the story without its big star, but it seems that’s not a problem for the rest of the cast. Or at least for Anya Chalotra.
The actress, who plays Yennefer on the show, spoke with Digital Spy about the transition they will all have to make in order to welcome their new co-star while also dealing with Cavill’s departure:
“I’m not worried. He’s going to be brilliant. I really think so. I mean, we’ve spent five years going on this journey together, and I’m so excited for Henry. At some point, that had to come to an end, his portrayal of Geralt, and that’s been incredible. We’ve had such a wonderful time with him. But also bringing in new people to this journey we’re on is so exciting at this stage. The chemistry. Yeah, that. I know their relationship means a lot to people who love the books. It’s also just so complex, and, in every stage, there’s something else to be found. I mean, they’re 100-odd years old, and they’re still going [laughs]. They still love each other. There’s something there.”
Right now the fourth season of the series seems to be in trouble because of the current strikes at Hollywood, but Hemsworth has already been preparing himself for the role, and once the conflict between the big studios and the actors and writers is resolve, production will star on the Australian actor’s debut as Geralt de Rivia.
The Short But Confident Path That Led Liam Hemsworth to The Witcher
Liam Hemsworth may not be as famous as his brother from the MCU, but he has definitely starred in some interesting titles that have brought him to this important role, which will definitely become one of his biggest acting challenges.
The actor started his career in 2007 with some small tv parts, and got his first chance on the big screen in 2009. But it was a year later that he would have his big break. In 2010, Hemsworth starred in the movie adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ The Last Song along with Miley Cyrus, with whom he would later have a long and complicated relationship.
Little after the movie was release, he was chosen to play Gale in The Hunger Games saga, joining big names such as Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. He played the part in the three sequels, participating in a few other films in the middle.
In 2020, he starred alongside Christoph Waltz in the series Most Dangerous Game from Quibi, one of the few original productions from the streaming platform that managed to survive after it was suspended, getting a second season on the Roku Channel.
