The Walking Dead universe has been on our TV screens for well over a decade at this point. Now, this apocalyptic world is taking a new approach—taking fan-favorite characters and sending them on adventures to places we’ve never seen. The Walking Dead: Dead City brought Maggie and Negan to NYC for a rescue mission, while The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will sweep our crossbow-carrying hero all the way to France. Many fans thought these The Walking Dead spinoff stories would be miniseries, but, as AMC revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, they are just getting started. The Walking Dead: Dead City and Daryl Dixon both scored a season two renewal at AMC.
Here’s what Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, had to say about this exciting The Walking Dead: Dead City and Daryl Dixon season two news:
This next chapter in the Walking Dead Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for Dead City and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon coming in September. We can’t wait to bring Dead City fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan. And, ahead of its debut, we’re thrilled to double down on Daryl as we bring the apocalypse to France, transforming Notre Dame, Pont du Gard, and other iconic locales into an apocalyptic landscape unlike anything we’ve seen before.
Daryl Dixon and Dead City getting a season two renewal is excellent, indeed. Dead City wraps up its first season on July 23. Considering this new information about The Walking Dead spinoff series, we might get a cliffhanger to end season one. At this point, we know that Maggie is lying through her teeth, and it won’t be too long before he pieces the truth together. Plus, there’s enough water under the bridge between these two to keep a story going for a while. Dead City season two will surely continue to unwind Maggie’s complex feelings towards Negan.
The Daryl Dixon season two renewal isn’t surprising at all. Yes, the show doesn’t come out until September. But Daryl is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in the franchise. And Daryl Dixon is taking us out of the USA and to France. It’s a locale shift that we have wanted in this franchise for years, and everything we have seen from the spinoff series so far looks dope. We can’t wait to see our faves exploring more of The Walking Dead’s universe as these spinoffs progress into their next seasons.
