Former “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart’s Apple TV+ series “The Problem With Jon Stewart” is ending over creative differences.
According to The New York Times, Stewart and Apple executives decided to part ways in recent days with members of the show’s staff informed about its end today.
Taping of new episodes for the third season was scheduled to begin within a couple of weeks. The series launched two years ago and was touted as Stewart’s big return to the talk show format after exiting “The Daily Show” in 2015.
However, over the seasons, Stewart and Apple executives had disagreements over some of the topics and guests. Stewart reportedly indicated to staff that topics related to China and artificial intelligence were causing concern at Apple, as was concern over the show’s potential coverage of the 2024 U.S. Presidential campaign.
Apple’s concern is its diving into entertainment raises the risk of collateral damage to its brand. As of September, analytics firm Antenna indicates Apple TV+ had more than 19.8 million U.S. subscribers.
The series had already confronted several topics like gun control and gender identity that sparked discourse.
