Happy Valentine’s Day from Todd Phillips. The director of the critically acclaimed 2019 DC film “Joker” has just released the first look at Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the long awaited sequel to the film “Joker: Folie à Deux“.

Gaga is reportedly playing Harley Quinn as part of the DC Elseworlds franchise. “Joker: Folie à deux” is not part of the DC Universe that DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are building with the remaining Justice league members and new characters, it lives in its own timeline.
Safran said this film will be “labeled clearly as DC Elseworlds, just like the comics do.”
Suicide Squad actress Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn in the DCEU was thrilled to see Gaga taking up the mantle.
“It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.” Robbie told MTV News in October 2022. “It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing,” she added. “I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”

Details about the plot of Joker: Folie à Deux have been kept under wraps, but it has been revealed that the movie will take place in the iconic Arkham Asylum from the Batman universe. Fans of the Joker and Harley Quinn lore will be thrilled to see the characters in this familiar setting.
Additionally, a first-look image was released showing Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck getting a shave in the asylum, adding to the anticipation of the film. The decision to make Joker: Folie à Deux a musical may be a bold move, but it could undoubtedly pay off. The film’s unique blend of music and storytelling may provide audiences with an experience unlike any other.
The cast features Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz reprising their roles as Arthur Fleck / Joker and Sophie Dumond respectively from the first film, alongside newcomers Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.
The Joker sequel directed by Phillips is scheduled to premiere on October 4, 2024.
