‘The Marvels’ Will Be the Shortest Film in MCU History

The Marvels

When The Marvels hits theaters on November 10, it will break at least one Marvel record.

At 105 minutes, the Brie Larson vehicle is the shortest film in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we may have Director Nia DaCosta to thank.

“I really wanted it to be under two hours,” DaCosta said. “I always think about the runtime, actually, when I go into a film. And I just feel like there’s no need to have it long if you don’t need to, because 1 hour 45 minutes is pretty average for a movie, so we were all really excited.”

What’s Best For the Movie

As superhero movies have come to dominate the box office, films have increasingly got longer and longer. While The Marvels will buck this trend, DaCosta insists that she was simply doing what’s best for the movie.

“I just think you do what’s right for the movie,” she added. “I didn’t even know about this runtime thing until I think it was reported on. You have to do what’s right for the movie.”

While the film may be shorter than its MCU brethren, DaCosta insists that fans don’t have to worry that it won’t be action-packed.

“We get to add to that history, that [Marvel is] starting to really dig into now, like women beating the shit out of each other,” DaCosta said. “We do a lot [of that] in this film, which is really exciting for me, because I love fight scenes. I was very excited to do it. I think the main fight scene, I’m really proud of. It’s something you haven’t seen before in the MCU, because of the nature of it, the switching.”

The MCU’s Newest Superhero Team

The Marvels will see Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel team up with Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Photon (Teyonah Parris) to form the MCU’s newest superhero team.

While projections for the film are muted compared to 2019’s Captain Marvel, which grossed $1.1 billion, Marvel fans are still excited to see how the latest chapter in the MCU unfolds.
