We last saw Din Djarin and Grogu at the end of “The Mandalorian” season 2 as he was bidding him farewell and leaving him in the care of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), but we then see the team during “The Book of Boba Fett” when Mando reunited with Grogu, the two set off for his home planet of Mandalore to face the music.
“The Mandalorian” Season 3 starring Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter will see Din Djarin traveling to Mandalore to redeem his past transgressions with his companion Grogu and continue their journeys through the Star Wars galaxy. Set after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history.
As we can see in the poster, Mando and Grogu are back to being a team of 2, and Mando is once again willing to fight to protect his friend no matter what. It is most likely that the majority of The Mandalorian season 3 will take place primarily on Mandalore as Din Djarin struggles with the consequences of his actions in the past season and tries to redeem himself after removing his helmet, and deals with his possession of the legendary Darksaber as he learns about what it means to wield it. We will also be seeing quite a few more more Mandalorians join him.
The Mandalorian season 2 confirmed Grand Admiral Thrawn was still alive. It is quite possible that he may make an appearance in season 3 of The Mandalorian.
According to the official synopsis “the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history”, Thrawn could be a part of that dark history.
As for the “old allies and new enemies part”, the first teaser did confirm that Djarin and Grogu will encounter Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) again, so we’d say a darksaber duel is not that far off.
Check out the official trailer for “The Mandalorian” season 3 below:
The trailer starts with Djarin speaking about what it means to truly be a Mandalorian as he and Grogu head to Mandalore. Meanwhile Captain Carson warns him that something dangerous is happening in the galaxy. Creator John Favreau promises a much bigger and very exciting season, “I will say that the scope of it is getting bigger, we have really cool space battles, we have lots of Mandalorians, we have the planet of Mandalore which we’ve been talking about for a long time. We get to see the Mandalorian culture.”
Aside from Pascal the main cast is back, including Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto), and Emily Swallow (the Armorer). Favreau says “Many of the wonderful actors you’ve seen in previous seasons return, and you’ll see them all work together on this show.”
The series is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni is also executive producing, co-writing two episodes, and likely directing one of two as well. Rick Famuyiwa and Carl Weathers are confirmed to direct, and according to reports, so will Bryce Dallas Howard. “It’s been a very ambitious season, a lot of our directors have returned, we have a very experienced team that have been working together for a long time and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy what we have in store” Says Favreau.
The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ for its third season on March 1st.
