The look of sound: Music and Politics in review

The 21st International  Forum for Films about Music (May 8-10) will face issues that that no one considered relevant until recently. The music world has suddenly become political again. Artists are rated according to nonartistic criteria; today exile, war and forced migration shape our music life, personally and substantively. That is why this year “The Look of Sound” questions new music films from the past two years about their explicit or implicit political significance.

This focused look will also extend to portraits of musicians who were able to overcome the political or social limitations of their day and age and became pioneers in their field.

The presentation of opera in film has not developed so much politically, but for pandemic-related reasons. A new hybrid form of cinema and the opera stage will find its way into movie theaters in June. Will it find its audience, or even a new audience?

This year “The Look of Sound” targets for the first time an audience interested in these questions and presents a broad spectrum of music genres and themes.

Accreditation is not necessary, all events are open to everyone.
