Supergirl actor Sasha Calle has skillfully evaded questions regarding the controversies surrounding The Flash movie star Ezra Miller. After years of being stuck in development hell, The Flash finally got its theatrical release, with Miller returning to the big screen as Barry Allen. One real life topic that has further complicated the film over the last year is the long list of legal allegations against Miller, which got to the point where The Flash’s own lead was barely part of the promotional tour of the DCEU movie.
Leading up to The Flash’s release, several members of the film’s cast and creative team have been asked about Miller and what it was like working with the non-binary star. However, one actor who dodged the question altogether was Calle, who brought Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, to life in The Flash. During a recent interview with New York Times, the actress shifted the question about working with Miller into a different direction by instead talking about working with her stunt team, sharing the following:
I spent a lot of time with my stunt team from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. And it was incredible being with my stunt team. I can’t not talk about them. I swear to you, they were my family through and through.
What The Flash Cast & Director Have Said About Ezra Miller
While Calle may have dodged talking about Miller, others have spoken positively about The Flash’s leading actor. The director himself, Andy Muschietti, has spoken highly of Miller before and after the legal allegations arose for the actor, which resulted in Miller seeking treatment for complex mental health issues. Muschietti even went as far as saying that no one could replace Miller in The Flash 2 if a sequel were to happen.
Kiersey Clemons, who played Iris West in The Flash, spoke about Miller in February 2023 about their co-star’s situation, saying that it was tough to see what they were going through after having had a great time working together on the film. Michael Shannon, who got to return as General Zod for the first time since 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, also had similar notes about feeling bad for Miller, calling them “lovely” and “very kind to me when I was there.” Long-time DCEU star Ben Affleck, who returned one last time as Batman, also voiced his positive experience working with Miller during The Flash’s big premiere last week.
Time will tell if Ezra Miller is done portraying the DC icon, as James Gunn and Peter Safran have previously stated that they might bring them back for the new DC Universe. Although given The Flash’s struggling box office performance, it wouldn’t be shocking if this is the last time Miller portrays the hero, as DC Studios are going for their reboot. If The Flash is the final time that Miller will be portraying the speedster, it will be interesting to see who will take over from them in the new DC Universe.
