Be warned, MAJOR SPOILERS lie ahead for The Flash…
The Flash director Andy Muschietti has revealed another super cameo that will feature at some stage during the multiversal madness that is the upcoming DC movie, The Flash. Look away now if you do not want to know who it is that will appear as MAJOR SPOILERS are incoming. Speaking with Esquire Middle East, Muschietti has confirmed that none other than Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage will finally don the red cape as Superman during The Flash, meaning the actor will at last fulfill a dream that he and director Tim Burton had more than two decades ago.
“Nic was absolutely wonderful. Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon.”
Heaping praise on the National Treasure and Face/Off star, Muschietti confirmed once and for all that Nicolas Cage’s iteration of the Man of Steel will appear in a cameo in The Flash. And the filmmaker could not be happier or more excited about Cage’s involvement.
“He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic.”
While we have no idea the details of when or how this will play out, it’s likely that Cage’s Superman will feature in a brief shot during the finale of the movie when the multiverse begins to collapse due to Barry Allen’s time travel. No doubt alongside an assortment of other crowd-pleasing cameos. Though this is just a semi-educated guess.
The story of how Nicolas Cage almost played Superman is now one of the most infamous in superhero movie history. Written by Kevin Smith and set to be directed by Batman and Batman Returns’ Tim Burton, the project was titled Superman Lives and would have seen Cage leading the way as the DC icon and doing battle with Brainiac. Fitted with a costume and ready to take flight, Superman Lives was ultimately canceled, meaning that audiences never got to see the glorious sight of Cage fighting a giant robotic spider. Not yet anyway…
The Flash Is Due to Land in Theaters Next Month
Worlds will collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
