‘The Crown’ Season 6 Will Portray Prince Charles and Camilla’s Wedding

‘The Crown’ Season 6 Will Portray Prince Charles and Camilla’s Wedding

Netflix has teased a storyline from the sixth and final season of its hit drama series “The Crown.”

The show, which first launched in 2016, follows the trials and tribulations of the British Royal Family, beginning with the death of King George VI and the succession of his daughter, Queen Elizabeth, to the throne.

The final season, set to air later this year, is believed to cover the death of Princess Diana and, Netflix has revealed, will also feature a royal wedding.

It won’t be Prince William or Prince Harry’s royal wedding covered by the series, however. According to the snap tweeted by Netflix’s Twitter account earlier today, viewers will get to see Prince Charles’s wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles, which took place in 2005 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

In the show, Prince Charles is played by Dominic West while Olivia Williams plays Camilla.

Charles’s mother Queen Elizabeth II was said to have initially disproved of the relationship, partly because her son’s affair with Parker-Bowles had brought the family into disrepute, and reportedly left the wedding celebration to watch horse racing in another room. Charles’s first wife, Diana, famously told an interviewer there were “three people” in her marriage, a reference to Parker-Bowles, a comment that caused uproar at the time.

After Diana’s death in a car crash in Paris in 1997 Charles continued the relationship with Parker-Bowles, increasingly edging out into the open. It resulted in some of the lowest ebbs in his popularity with the British public. Increasingly, however, Parker-Bowles began to be accepted as the heir to the throne’s partner and eventually the two married in a civil ceremony in 2005.

However, Charles’s son Prince Harry revealed earlier this year in his shocking memoir “Spare” that he and his brother Prince William had begged their father not to re-marry.

“Despite Willy and me urging him not to, Pa was going ahead,” Harry wrote in the book. “We pumped his hand, wished him well. No hard feelings. We recognized that he was finally going to be with the woman he loved, the woman he’d always loved.”

According to Claudia Harrison, who plays Princess Anne in Seasons 5 and 6 of “The Crown,” the wedding was the final scene the cast shot. It was filmed at York Minster Cathedral in England with the entire family in attendance, including Imelda Staunton, who plays the Queen in the final two seasons of the show, Jonathan Pryce as her husband Prince Phillip plus Ed McVey as Prince William and Luther Ford as Prince Harry.
