The Batman’s The Penguin Spinoff Show Officially Begins Filming

The Batman’s The Penguin spinoff show with Colin Farrell has officially begun filming as Matt Reeves start fleshing out the Elseworlds-based universe.

The Batman’s The Penguin spinoff show with Colin Farrell has officially begun filming. Matt Reeves is building out The Batman universe following the 2022 movie’s box office and critical success. As Reeves signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, he is just getting started with his franchise. Not only is The Batman – Part II in the works, but the filmmaker is executive producing several spinoff shows that will connect to his universe. One of them is The Penguin, with Farrell reprising the role of Oswald Cobblepot, which will be premiering on HBO Max. Lauren LeFranc is working on the show as a writer and showrunner.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

While a premiere date for The Penguin show has yet to be revealed, season 1 will have eight episodes. Even though it’s being described as a limited series, time will tell if The Penguin season 2 will happen.

After several months of talking about the series, The Penguin has officially headed into filming. Kalina Ivanov, who works as a production designer on the HBO Max drama, revealed on Instagram that The Penguin had officially finished its first day of filming. Ivanov shared a cryptic image of a mysterious logo while stating that her lips are sealed.

Everything We Know About The Penguin Show

Robert Pattinson's Batman Rumored To Appear In The Penguin Spinoff Show custom image

While plot points have been kept under wraps, The Penguin TV show will actually take place only a week after The Batman. At the end of the film, Gotham City was flooded thanks to Edward Nashton, a.k.a. the Riddler. Even though it will have been over a year since Reeves’ movie hit theaters, The Penguin will serve as a bridge between the first and second movies. Pattinson’s Batman is rumored to make an appearance in the show.

Over the last few months, The Penguin has been busy with rounding out its cast that will star alongside Farrell. Cristin Milioti was tapped as Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine Falcone, who was a crucial player in The Batman. The HBO Max drama will also feature Michael Kelly, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell. Rhenzy Feliz, best known for playing Alex Wilder on Runaways, was also cast for The Penguin.

With The Batman universe getting fleshed out both on the big and small screens, it will be intriguing to follow its development over the next few years. As DC Studios is getting the new DC Universe up and running, it’s still great to see that Warner Bros. is investing in the Elseworlds franchises too. Hopefully, once The Penguin season 1 has wrapped production, a first trailer will come out not long after to give viewers a taste of the new series.
