The “Bachelor” Zach – Episode 7 Thoughts, the Next “Bachelorette,” & Your Daily Roundup – Reality Steve

I know this is off topic, but I can’t tell you how geeked I am about March Madness and Conference Championship Week. How geeked am I? Last night I went online and about a Furman Paladins shirt, just like I bought a St. Peter’s Peacock shirt last year. It’s why I say at the end of every Sports Daily podcast that sports will always be the greatest reality show on television. Because it is. Furman exacting revenge on UT Chattanooga almost a year to the day where they were knocked out of a chance to go to the Big Dance by a 40 foot heave at the buzzer is what sports are all about. Seeing two guys like Mike Bothwell and Jalen Slawson come back for a 5th year of college for the sole purpose of making it to the Big Dance then doing it last night by beating UT Chattanooga is why the tournament is the best sporting event of the year to me. So awesome seeing that last night, and I have exactly zero ties to Furman University whatsoever. I just love seeing great stories in college basketball, and Furman this year was one of them. And oh yeah, I don’t think Furman is done either. They absolutely could win a game or two in the tournament if they get a good draw. We’ll know on Sunday.

Don’t forget to get your “Reader Emails” in today for tomorrow’s column. Email me at [email protected] so it can get in, and yes, that email has been working since last week. I haven’t received any emails since last Wednesday from anyone saying they tried to email me and it got sent back to them. So that’s a good sign. Plenty of stuff to talk about now heading into hometowns, the “Bachelorette” announcement, the men set to be on next season will start coming out soon, etc. So get your emails in today to appear tomorrow.

(SPOILERS) Today’s Daily Roundup covers the “Bachelorette” spoiler I posted yesterday, are producers listening to their audience, the appeal of the “Bachelorette,” American Idol, & the paparazzi is at it again.

Obviously the biggest news yesterday was what I spoiled on all my social media accounts, and that is I expect Charity to be “officially” named as the “Bachelorette” in the coming weeks. I’ve had enough confirmation behind the scenes for me to finally run with it. You probably heard me allude to it yesterday in the Daily Roundup that I was hearing strong rumblings, but without going into detail, those started around the weekend of WTA taping and then heard some more stuff yesterday to where I figured where there’s smoke there’s fire. Of course, ABC has made last minute changes in the past, but, I really don’t see that happening this time around. I think they had a really good crop of women to choose from this season. I don’t think you really could’ve gone wrong with Charity, Gabi, or Ariel to be honest. But only one can get it (besides last season), so unfortunately, those two will have to have their fun down in Paradise, since I gotta believe they will easily be part of the original cast this summer as long as they want to do it.

Of course yesterday’s announcement was met with responses from all ends of the spectrum. It ranged from “YAAASSS QUEEN!!!!” to “Ugh, why her? I wanted so-and-so.” First off, no one cares who you wanted. Secondly, this is no different than any other season. Everyone has their favorites they would’ve liked to see get the gig, but only one person can, so naturally, just means that those who are Ariel or Gabi fans, have to make it known that they wanted them. Great. Not sure what the point of that is, but go off. As for why they chose Charity? Same answer I always give. Because they can. It’s their show, and they’ll do whatever they want, for whatever reason they want, and they don’t need to explain themselves. Just like if they would’ve chosen Ariel. Or Gabi. They choose, the season starts filming, and we all move on. I can absolutely positively assure you that zero people care if you say you aren’t watching next season now. Plenty will and plenty will talk about it. (A Side Note: every message I got from someone who didn’t like the choice and made it known to me of Charity as Bachelorette all had one thing in common. Take a wild guess what that was. SMH).

And after all the talk and rumors and speculation, once again, this show didn’t deviate from their norm. They chose someone who finished in the top 4 of their “Bachelor” season for the 20th time out of now 22 Bachelorettes (we had two Bachelorettes on season 16 and season 19), and they chose someone who came from a season we just watched air, which is now 19 of the 22 Bachelorettes. That was the reason I kept repeating those stats over the last two weeks. I just didn’t really see them jumping outside their box and going off the board. 1) They’ve never chosen a “Bachelorette” who WASN’T on the show before, and 2) there wasn’t anyone from a previous season that finished in the top 4 who was single outside of any previous Bachelorette, Susie, or Bri. And Susie and Bri weren’t getting it.

Ever thought of how getting two 1-on-1’s before hometowns made women fare that season? @BachelorData did and broke it down for you:

So basically judging by that chart, there’s no definitive answer either way. Some who have gotten two 1-on-1’s have ended up winning in a season and some haven’t. Before Clayton, it hadn’t happened to the winner since Arie’s season. But before Arie, it had happened 4 seasons in a row with Nick, Ben, Chris, and Juan Pablo. So up until this season, they’d seemingly gone away from giving the winner two 1-on-1 dates for a few seasons.

Your recap begins on Page 2…
