Telluride 2023 Commences with Major Premieres, Plus Screen Talk Bye – IndieWire

This week marks the beginning of fall festival season, with big releases like Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” and Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers” premiering at the Venice Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival and generating the next wave of Oscar buzz.

But even more significant to the future of Screen Talk is the departure of co-host Eric Kohn, who has left IndieWire for a new role as Head of Film Strategy and Development of EDGLRD, the new multidisciplinary design collective founded by filmmaker and artist Harmony Korine.

In this week’s episode of Screen Talk, he and Anne Thompson go one more round, discussing highlights from nearly 20 years at IndieWire, and what went into his decision to team up with Korine on ambitious new film plans that will still take him to Venice and Toronto this year.

Then, Thompson and awards editor Marcus Jones provide an inside look at Day 1 of Telluride Film Festival, including both reactions and Oscar prospects for “The Bikeriders,” “Anselm,” “Rustin,” and “Saltburn,” plus tidbits from the opening day brunch, which had some surprise celebrity attendees.
