Teaser trailer and poster released for video game adaptation

The first teaser trailer for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has been released, offering a quick look at the adaptation.

Move over Super Mario Bros, as Universal just released the first teaser trailer for their next highly anticipated video game adaptation, Five Nights at Freddy’s. A film version of the video game franchise has been in the works for years, and sure enough, Blumhouse and Universal are readying what they no doubt hope will be the next successful franchise for the horror-based studio. The retro trailer, which features Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt running afoul of the killer animatronic mascots, was short, sweet, and promises a good time.

Here’s the official synopsis from the studio:

The terrifying horror game phenomenon becomes a blood-chilling cinematic event, as Blumhouse— the producer of M3GAN, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man— brings Five Nights at Freddy’s to the big screen.

The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is getting a simultaneous Peacock/ theatrical release on October 27th, just in time for Halloween. In addition to Hutcherson, the film co-stars You’s Elizabeth Mail, Mary Stuart Masterson, and the great Matthew Lillard.

Of course, a quasi Five Nights at Freddy’s movie was made a few years ago called Willy’s Wonderland, but this seems to be the real deal. It’s directed by Emma Tammi, who directed The Wind and episodes of Blumhouse’s Into the Dark, and the creature effects are by the Jim Henson Studio.

Here’s the poster:
