Taylor Swift Fans Think She Hinted at the Joe Alwyn Breakup With an Eras Tour Easter Egg

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn reportedly met at the Met Gala in 2016 before their relationship went public in 2017. Alwyn even collaborated with Swift on  Folklore and Evermore under the pen name William Bowery. Specifically, he’s credited with co-writing “Exile” and “Betty,” as well as co-producing “Exile,” ‘Betty,” “My Tears Ricochet,” “August,” “This Is Me Trying,” and “Illicit Affairs.”  On Swift’s surprise ninth album, Alwyn is credited on “Champagne Problems,” “Coney Island,” and “Evermore.”

Though the pair kept details of their relationship relatively private, Alwyn discussed their musical partnership during an interview with The Guardian in April 2022. “It wasn’t like, ‘It’s five o’clock, it’s time to try and write a song together,’” he said at the time. “It came about from messing around on a piano, and singing badly, then being overheard, and being, like, ‘Let’s see what happens if we get to the end of it together.’”

He continued, “I mean, fun is such a stupid word, but it was a lot of fun. And it was never a work thing or a ‘Let’s try and do this because we’re going to put this out’ thing. It was just like baking sourdough in lockdown.”

Like many Taylor Swift conspiracy theories, the idea that Swift was sending a message about her relationship status with her Eras Tour setlist could be a massive stretch, but I honestly wouldn’t put it past her. She is, after all, a “Mastermind.”
