Taylor Swift announces feature directorial debut

Taylor Swift will direct a feature film, according to releases from Variety and Deadline.

The film, also written by Swift, will be produced by Searchlight Pictures, perhaps best known for the Oscar-winning pictures “Nomadland” and “The Shape of Water.”

The film’s plot and casting have not yet been announced.

“Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey,” said Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield.

Rumours have circulated online indicating Swift has her eyes on an Oscar for her 2021 short film, “All Too Well.” The film features Dylan O’Brien, Sadie Sink and Swift, and uses the talents of renowned cinematographer Rina Yang.

Swift attended several film festivals — including TIFF 2022 — to promote “All Too Well.” And she will appear in Variety’s “Directors on Directors” series opposite Martin McDonagh on Dec. 12.

Swift has had a busy year — from releasing a new studio album, to announcing a tour, to creating a song for “Where the Crawdads Sing.” Earlier this week, she released a behind-the-scenes look at the “All Too Well” short film.

Swift’s team did not immediately respond to request for further comment on the upcoming feature film.
