Man of Tomorrow, the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s Superman, is scheduled to fly into theaters on Jul. 9, 2027, two years after David Corenswet’s official debut as the Man of Steel. It serves as the fourth film in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU and a key entry in Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, following the release of Superman, Supergirl, and Clayface. The movie is expected to pick up after the events of its predecessor, but now Gunn has confirmed exactly when Man of Tomorrow takes place in the DCU timeline and how much time will have passed inside the narrative world of the bustling Metropolis.
Filming on Man of Tomorrow is currently underway in Atlanta, with sneak peeks from the set teasing the reluctant and uneasy team-up of Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, who are forced to work together to combat a much larger cosmic threat. The two archenemies must set aside their differences to protect Earth from Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. It seems that trouble may have been brewing for a little while, as Gunn has now confirmed a time jump between the events of Superman and Man of Tomorrow.
When Gunn was asked by a fan on Threads, “How long after Superman (2025) will Man of Tomorrow take place?” The DC boss replied, “Basically real time.” Someone quizzed its DCU timeline placement, to which Gunn clarified, “Real time like summer 2027,” anchoring Man of Tomorrow in Summer 2027 to coincide with its real-world theatrical release. This means the sequel will feature a time jump of around two years after Superman, though fans might get some hints about the events that have unfolded in-between from Supergirl.
Gunn previously confirmed on Threads that Supergirl takes place chronologically between the events of Superman and Man of Tomorrow, picking up after Milly Alcock’s brief introduction as Kara Zor-El in the inaugural movie of the new DCU. She is also confirmed to be reprising her role in Man of Tomorrow following her headliner, as Safran has already asserted that Supergirl is a “major part” of their overarching cinematic plans. Supergirl acts as a direct link between the two Superman films, likely teasing the events to come.
Alcock is reuniting with Krypto for an intergalactic adventure in Supergirl, which is the second big screen outing in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and is due to land in theaters on Jun. 26, 2026. After that, the superhero slate will plunge into R-rated body horror territory with Clayface, releasing in theaters on Oct. 3, 2026. Man of Tomorrow arrives the following year on Jul. 9, 2027, with a stacked cast of superheroes and villains bringing the sprawling DC epic to the screen alongside co-leads Corenswet and Hoult.
