WARNING: This article includes MAJOR spoilers from Superman & Lois season 3, episode 13, “What Kills You Only Makes You Stronger.”The Superman & Lois season 3 finale introduced one of the Man of Steel’s biggest villains as fans are freaking out online about the character’s proper debut. While The CW is winding down its DC TV franchise, the network still has Superman & Lois, which will be back for season 4. However, before going on its new hiatus, the Superman & Lois season 3 finale had loose threads to wrap up as Lex Luthor unleashed Clark Kent’s biggest challenge yet.
After returning earlier this season, the Superman & Lois season 3 finale brought a former villain’s arc full circle as he became the show’s version of Doomsday. With this being a huge surprise, fans freaked out across social media as the Man of Steel duked it out with the DC foe. Check out several reactions below:
How Superman & Lois’ Doomsday Differs From Past Versions
While Superman & Lois season 3 introduced Doomsday, the show takes a similar route to Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Instead of adapting the comics, the show’s take on Doomsday is an evolved version of Bizarro, Superman’s doppelganger from the Inverse World. Similarly to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Lex Luthor had a major role in creating Doomsday.
After discovering the existence of Bizarro, Lex put the alternative Superman through cruel experiments and tortured him, that in turn, transformed him into Doomsday. This is almost the same approach as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Lex fused his blood with General Zod’s body which turned him into the dangerous creature. Given that the Superman & Lois season 3 finale ended with the battle unconcluded, the showdown will continue in the season 4 premiere.
If Superman & Lois season 4 ends up being the final season for the DC TV drama, it wouldn’t be shocking if the show plans to adapt The Death and Return of Superman as one of its last major storylines. Given the massive budget cuts for the upcoming season, it would make sense to have the Man of Steel die in the Superman & Lois season 4 premiere and eventually have him return throughout the season. But for now, time will tell what is in store for Superman & Lois season 4, which will likely premiere in 2024.
