Superman Legacy Casting Rumors Reveal Which Actors Could Play Superman, Lois Lane, And Lex Luthor

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman Legacy movie is one of the most-anticipated comic book movies in the works, and the cast remains a total mystery for now. New reports, however, begin to paint a picture of the actors who could appear in the movie and what roles they may play.

The Hollywood Reporter said David Corenswet (Pearl) is a “top contender” to play Clark Kent/Superman. He reportedly made it to the screen test stage of the audition process, and this is expected to take place later this month or early next. Deadline, for its part, reported that Nicholas Hoult (The Great) is in the running to play Kent/Superman. THR, however, said Hoult might be in line to play the villain Lex Luthor. Other actors who may be in the running for Superman include Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) and Andrew Richardson (A Call to Spy).

As for who could play Lois Lane, THR said Sex Education actress Emma Mackey is a contender, alongside Rachel Brosnahan (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Screen VI).

None of this is confirmed, and a source told THR that the list of names in the report is nothing more than “a chatroom list.” Warner Bros. declined to comment. A source said the filmmaking team is “nowhere near a decision” on the cast for Superman Legacy.

Gunn, who is writing and directing Superman Legacy, said on Twitter that he “would never comment on who is or isn’t AUDITIONING for a role.”

In addition to the lead roles best known and most associated with the Superman universe, THR said Superman Legacy will be filled with “many” DC heroes, though none were named outright.

Superman Legacy will focus on a younger Clark Kent, and Gunn recently announced that Chris Pratt will not play the character. The movie releases on July 11, 2025. Gunn is writing and directing.

Gunn’s latest movie was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which releases on May 5.
