Superman Goes to War With Lex Luthor in New Look at ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Sequel

Superman and Lex Luthor go to war in new footage from the upcoming DCU sequel, Man of Tomorrow. The follow-up sees David Corenswet return as the Man of Steel, with Nicholas Hoult reprising the role of the iconic supervillain Lex. And while we know Man of Tomorrow will see the pair join forces to take down an intergalactic threat in Brainiac, they will clearly start things off with a good, old-fashioned dust up.

Filming on Man of Tomorrow is now underway in Atlanta, and following the first look at Superman’s slightly altered new suit, the latest behind-the-scenes (via @DCFilmNews) brings far more action as Kal-El and Lex do battle in the streets. Sporting his new armored suit, there’ll be no more cries of “1A!” from Lex as he is now able to deliver the punches himself. Of course, even a bulky Iron Man-esque outfit might not be enough to contend with the might of the Kryptonian, as images reveal Superman standing over a downed Lex and delivering a pummeling beatdown.

Footage from filming, meanwhile, shows Luthor in action. Stomping around set in his giant, vibrant green and purple battlesuit, aka Warsuit, the level of practicality on set is certainly encouraging, with the suit looking like it was ripped straight from the pages of DC Comics (via @dcuworld). This dedication to practical sets and stunts continues in further footage, which shows Lex either flying (or being thrown) through a wall (via @Tristen_Smith12).

Man of Tomorrow brings back David Corenswet alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, under the direction once again of DC Studios boss James Gunn. It has now been confirmed that the sequel will pick up following the first movie, which saw the two characters in a battle of brain and brawn as per usual. Only this time, they’ll be forced to work together to stop the villainous Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, with the major supervillain finally making his big screen debut.

Featuring an ever-growing supporting cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart / Green Lantern, alongside co-leads David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, Man of Tomorrow is all set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.

But before we bask in the glorious sight of Superman and Lex fighting before emerging as a world-saving odd-couple, the DCU continues this month with Supergirl, which finds House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock picking up where she left off at the end of Superman and reuniting with Krypto for an intergalactic adventure. Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl is the second big screen outing in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and is due to land in theaters on June 26, 2026.
