The DC movie that pits Superman and Batman against Darkseid is days away from releasing on HBO Max, adding another superhero release to its pre-existing roster. DC’s assorted movie catalog is one that only grows stronger with every passing year, as more films are added to the overarching list – and this seems as though it will only become more true thanks to the new DC Universe timeline.
However, plenty of DC movies don’t get the attention of the likes of the DCEU or DCU, despite being a part of one of the biggest comic book franchises of all time. On the plus side, that does also mean there’s a wealth of interesting and exciting DC movies for people to enjoy if they find themselves wanting to experience film stories outside of the most well-known live-action movie series.
Indeed, audiences are set to get a new way to watch one such DC movie in the coming days, as one of Superman and Batman’s biggest team-up film adventures is set to be available on HBO Max very soon, letting viewers experience the story of the heroes teaming up to take on Darkseid and face off against the world of Apokolips and its forces.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse Is Available On HBO Max As Of June 1st
HBO Max’s roster of available superhero releases is constantly being updated on the platform, with a balance of newer installments and movies and shows from years long since passed being added to the streaming service from month to month. This is the exact case with 2010’s Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, which is due to become available on HBO Max on June 1st.
This is a promising update for the wider world of DC’s filmography, since Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is a lesser-known release from the franchise, as a result of both it being an animated DC movie – since focus has tended to be on live-action superhero movies up until recent history – and because this subsequently meant it wasn’t linked to the main cinematic universes audiences have been most familiar with and invested in on-screen.
Interestingly, though, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse has elements of the DCEU and DCU’s current stories within it, since it details both Superman meeting Supergirl for the first time, and Superman, Batman and several other major DC heroes facing off against Darkseid in order to save the world – which also makes it doubly worth giving a view when it does arrive on HBO Max.
Why Superman/Batman: Apocalypse Is Worth Watching
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is first and foremost a movie with an inherent appeal since it focuses on DC’s two biggest heroes, and pits them against one of the franchise’s most famous and most powerful villains, which naturally results in a considerable level of action and drama, and ensures that the film is interesting throughout, since the stakes are so high.
That said, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is also engaging because it takes care to explore far more than simply Superman, Batman and Darkseid. Of course, Supergirl gets her own detailed story throughout, which ties well into the main crux of the plot, but room is also made to feature Wonder Woman, Big Barda, and Apocalypse for good measure, providing a more in-depth look into DC’s character roster than may have otherwise been expected.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse‘s review scores also pay testament to why the film is worth giving a watch. Overall, the film largely boasts decent review scores – with a 7 out of 10 on IMDb and a 64% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but its decidedly low 20% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes adds another reason to view the DC film, since it shows it’s a release that different viewers have had drastically different perspectives on.
