Supergirl’s Future & Ideal Team-Ups In James Gunn’s DC Universe Addressed By Milly Alcock

Supergirl joining James Gunn’s DC Universe opens up a myriad of superhero crossover possibilities.

After debuting in 2025’s Superman, Milly Alcock will star as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the upcoming DCU film, which is directed by I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie. The rest of the cast features Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, with a cameo from David Corenswet as Superman. Notably, Momoa will portray Lobo in the iconic DC character’s film debut, marking a major crossover for the Woman of Tomorrow.

Screen Rant caught up with Alcock at CCXP Mexico, and the star addressed her feelings towards future DC team-ups as well as Supergirl’s future in the franchise. “I didn’t even think of that, but now I’m going to be thinking about that,” she said, when asked about what crossover character she wants Kara to meet next.

Screen Rant: You know, obviously like you’re kind of staring down a long line of maybe a future with Supergirl. So, you know, are you looking at any characters and thinking, I want to work with, you know, this future DC actor or something like that? You know, Supergirl has a long history with Jimmy Olsen, for example.

Milly Alcock: That’s a good question. I didn’t even think of that, but now I’m going to be thinking about that. Okay. No, I haven’t. But now I will definitely be.

Though Alcock did not offer up her ideal DC crossover, the potential of her meeting Superman’s pal Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo, already exists in the franchise. Both characters appeared in last year’s Superman, but they did not share any scenes. Additionally, the movie ends with Jimmy Olsen begrudgingly in a relationship with the gorgeous but clingy Eve Teschmacher.

In other media, Jimmy and Kara have often been paired up, be it romantically or as friends. Perhaps their most notable onscreen relationship was in 2015’s Supergirl, but other series that dabbled in the pairing include Smallville and My Adventures With Superman. Likewise, there is a comic precedent for the duo as a couple, meaning it would not be a stretch for the DCU to move in that direction.

Despite the characters not having met, their connection through Clark makes it likely their paths will eventually cross. That being said, Supergirl holds a lot of other possibilities for crossovers, sharing a comic history with other iconic heroes like Nightwing, who has been rumored to join the DCU. Alternatively, Kara could be depicted as a member of the Justice Gang, something teased by season two of Peacemaker.

Regardless, the Girl of Steel will return in Supergirl, set to release on June 26, 2026.
