‘Supergirl’ Digital Streaming Release Date Reportedly Revealed

After struggling quite severely at the box office (a struggle that is somehow getting even worse), the latest DCU movie, Supergirl, is reportedly hoping to at least find some semblance of success on streaming. And surprisingly soon.

Starring House of the Dragon and Superman star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl alongside Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem, The Witcher) as her unlikely companion Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, The Old Guard 2) as the villainous Krem, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer, The Studio) as Supergirl’s father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham (King & Conqueror) as Supergirl’s mother, Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa (Dune, Aquaman) as fan-favorite intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo, Supergirl is now officially a box office bomb, with the DCU movie reportedly coming to streaming faster than a speeding bullet.

Based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book arc, the reboot follows Kara Zor-El as she reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice after an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home.

Supergirl (1) Warner Bros.

Directed by Craig Gillespie of I, Tonya and Cruella fame, from a script written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl is only the second big screen outing for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. And the cracks are already starting to show. After receiving mixed reviews from critics, Supergirl has grossed just $100 million against a reported production budget of $170 million. Which is perhaps why the studio is reportedly looking to rush the movie onto digital streaming, with a release date of July 28, 2026, having now been revealed.

While this release date has yet to be officially confirmed by Warner Bros. or DC Studios, industry reports are now claiming that Supergirl will indeed take flight on digital streaming later this month. MovieWeb has reached out for comment and possible confirmation.

Supergirl (2026) Trailer

Despite a universally praised lead performance from Milly Alcock as Supergirl (who is due to return to the DCU in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, in 2027), the reboot was deemed “rotten” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes following a divisive score of 54%. While audiences have been more enamored, as reflected by a 75% score on the Popcornmeter, Supergirl’s box office struggles have only worsened. After debuting with a global total of $68 million, the superhero movie suffered a monumental 73% drop in its second weekend.
Based on these figures, it’s understandable that the studio has little faith these numbers will ever improve, and, should the streaming release prove true, have decided instead to hurry the home release in the hopes of finding a hit that way instead.
