Starfield will get official mod support in 2024, Bethesda confirms

Bethesda has confirmed plans to introduce official mod support for Starfield in 2024.

Asked about mod support in an interview with Famitsu, game director Todd Howard said the studio intends to support modding “in a big way” – as it has done with past games including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4.

“You will be able to do almost anything, just like in previous works”, Howard said (via Google Translate). “Mod support will be available next year, but we love it too, so we’ll do it in a big way.”

Starfield was released last week and appears to have broken Microsoft‘s record for the biggest launch day for an Xbox Game Studios title.

Over six million people played the game by the end of its first official day of release, including more than one million concurrent players, according to the platform holder.

A variety of unofficial mods have been released since the game launched, including one which removes the FSR2 upscaling tech present in the game, which is designed for AMD graphics cards, and replaces it with DLSS, the equivalent tech used in Nvidia‘s graphics cards.

Bethesda looks set to release a number of Starfield story expansions. While a lunch window hasn’t been confirmed, the game’s “first story expansion” will be called Shattered Space.
