Of all the Marvel projects on the docket, the studio has seemingly forgotten about Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
The animated series was originally announced at Disney+ Day in 2021 and was teased as a prequel to the Tom Holland Spider-Man films.
“The animated series follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots,” Marvel wrote at the time.
What We Know
Following the series’ initial announcement, however, updates have been few and far between.
In mid-2022, Marvel showcased a selection of concept art showing a young Peter Parker and teased an appearance by Daredevil, who will be voiced by Charlie Cox.
Additionally, Marvel revealed that the show would feature Doc Ock and Scorpion as antagonists and that Norman Osbourne would appear as a mentor to Peter. The studio also hinted that Doctor Strange would be involved in the story.
Silence From Marvel
Since then, however, Marvel has gone radio silent.
With Disney publically announcing a shift in their streaming strategy, and Disney+ canceling shows left and right, Spider-Man fans were worried that Freshman Year had been lost in the shuffle and would never see the light of day.
Luckily, those fears seem to be unfounded.
Jeff Trammel Gives Update
Spider-Man: Freshman Year writer and executive producer Jeff Trammel responded to a fan’s inquiry about the show on X (formerly Twitter) and revealed that production is humming along.
“Nothing that I can share yet, just that I’m eager for everyone to see the show. Our crew worked (and is still working) hard to make Freshman Year feel special, fun, and unique. And I’m excited for the world to see it!” Trammel wrote.

While we don’t have a release date, cast, or real plot yet, at least we know that Freshman Year is still moving forward.
For now, all we know is that Spider-Man: Freshman Year will hit streaming in 2024. Hopefully, we will see Peter Parker swinging back into action sooner rather than later.
