'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Set For Historic Box Office Debut

After several years of development turmoil, production delays, and rampant fan speculation regarding the identity of one particular characterSpider-Man: Brand New Day will finally swing into theaters this week.

It looks like the wait will prove worthwhile, as the newest Marvel Studios release is tracking toward a potentially historic box office opening.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Eyes $300 Million Domestic Opening

We at MickeyBlog have been keeping an eye on the film’s steadily growing opening weekend projections over the past few weeks. Brand New Day was eyeing a $180–$190 million domestic opening at the beginning of the month. That figure ballooned to $260–$300 million last week.

That number has increased yet again in the days leading up to release. Global Box Office now projects the movie to open to more than $300 million domestically, a feat only one other film has ever accomplished.

Avengers: Endgame opened to $357 million domestically in April of 2019 as part of its unfathomable $1.2 billion worldwide debutBrand New Day isn’t tracking to quite that big of a worldwide opening, as Global Box Office is eyeing an $800 million global bow.

What makes Brand New Day tracking anywhere near Endgame‘s figures all the more impressive is that the latter film was the culmination of the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe to that point in its history, the must-see conclusion to a truly epic saga. Brand New Day, meanwhile, is just another Spider-Man film, the hopeful start of another trilogy.

Spider-Man movies historically perform well at the box office. The last two MCU Spidey movies (2019’s Far From Home and 2021’s No Way Home) each grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, with No Way Home currently holding the second-biggest domestic opening of all time at $260 million.

Brand New Day looks set to usurp its predecessor this weekend. If it does, it will boast the highest domestic box office debut of any Spider-Man film.

More About The Movie

Spider-Man: Brand New Day sees Tom Holland return as the famous webslinger. The film’s logline states that “pressures spark a surprising physical evolution” within him as “a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”

Zendaya and Jacob Batalon return as MJ and Ned Leeds, respectively. Jon Bernthal will make his cinematic Marvel debut as Frank Castle/The Punisher. MCU stalwart Mark Ruffalo will also appear as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

Michael Mando will reprise his role of Scorpion from 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvin Jones III will also star as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone after voicing the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018).

Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink also stars in Brand New Day, with Marvel deliberately keeping her character’s identity a secret to this point. We’re not mind-readers, so there’s really no way to guess who she’s playing.

Brand New Day is expected to supplant Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey atop the box office charts this week. Boding well for their bank accounts, Holland, Zendaya, and Bernthal also star in that film.
