Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has launched a new PlayStation 5 advert to kick off its holiday season marketing campaign.
Titled ‘Feel it Now on PlayStation 5’, the live action trailer is viewable below.
In an accompanying PlayStation Blog post, Andrea Perez, SIE’s senior vice president of global marketing, said the new spot “highlights the emotional thrills that gaming on PS5 inspires”.
Sony is releasing a new PS5 model this month. Like the launch model, the new one will be available in standard and Digital editions.
According to the company, the new console has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and in weight by 18% and 24% respectively compared to the current one.
Unlike the launch model, the new PS5 Digital Edition will support an attachable Blu-ray disc drive, which can be purchased separately.
The new PS5 is expected to debut on November 8 in the US, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Modern Warfare 3 bundles on the way.
Perez said Sony is “entering a holiday season with more console supply than we’ve had since the launch of PS5” in November 2020.
She added “To celebrate this moment, we’re welcoming gamers around the world to experience the emotional power of immersive play on PS5 with our new spot, ‘Feel it Now on PlayStation 5.’
“Through the creative imagination of developers and innovative use of console features like 4K visuals, 3D audio, the ultra high-speed SSD, and the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, gaming on PS5 evokes heightened sensations.
“Our latest spot highlights the breadth of emotions players feel while exploring PS5 worlds, from a snapshot of fear, coming face to face with a Clicker from The Last of Us Part I, to the joy of meeting mooncalves from Hogwarts Legacy and befriending a frost wolf in Final Fantasy XVI.”
SIE senior vice president and head of global marketing Eric Lempel said in a recent interview that this will be the first Christmas shopping season that anyone who wants to buy a PS5 will be able to find one.
“Our outlook on PlayStation 5 is really strong,” he told Barron’s. “We’re expecting one of the strongest seasons in our history in terms of console sales.”
Sony is aiming to ship 25 million PS5 consoles during its current fiscal year ending in March 2024. If achieved, it would beat a 25-year-old console sales record set when the original PlayStation shipped 22.6 million units over a 12-month period.
Xbox kicked off its big holiday season marketing campaign last month with a new live action trailer titled ‘Wake Up and Dream’.
